This one day session will concentrate on specific sections of the Access to Information and Privacy Acts. While there will be two keynote speakers this year, presenting an overview of the various issues in relation to these Acts, the emphasis of the program is on training. Rather than have two days of sessions, with single tracks, there will be one day with two tracks of training sessions: one for beginners and a general level.
WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND
Information issues at all levels of government are currently in a state of flux. The rise of information and communication technologies, the moves toward an increasingly wired society, the social shifts as a result of all this combined with most governments operating in a different culture, have all had an impact on access to information and privacy issues. While more government information than ever is being both accessed by the public and shared between governments, there are continually evolving issues.
The entrances to government are being opened wider and wider, especially with the growth of web sites and the opportunities to access information quickly. But with all these changing environments have come some very crucial and important issues. Approaches to the handling of documents under Access to Information and Privacy, at the federal and provincial level, has been the subject of scrutiny and much comment. All of this has put ATIP under pressure. We are in a time of major transition in our society and the nature of democracy is taking on new and expanded meanings. The right of access to information continues to play a role in all this.
This one day seminar will bring together a group of information and privacy professionals from all levels of government, the private sector and public interest groups, who will grapple with many of these issues.
