WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND

Privacy has become a major issue in Canadian society. The Minister of Justice announced in September, 1996, that the Federal Government would enact privacy legislation to cover the private sector by the year 2000 at the latest. The Canadian Standards Association recently issued Standard Q830 - A Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information. Public opinion polls have shown the majority of the public is increasingly concerned about the privacy of their personal information. The province of Quebec enacted a privacy law in 1993 that covers the private sector in the province.

These developments are all having a significant impact on businesses and corporations alike. It is crucial, with these new and developing privacy environments, to be aware of what is going on.

OBJECTIVES

This seminar will give you an understanding of the state of privacy in Canada, the specific concerns citizens are expressing about why they feel their privacy is being threatened and ways to implement policies your corporation can develop to deal with these problems.
